Ooooo you are throwin' down now....

Seriously - the world would be "just a bit" different...why?

Because there is nothing new under the sun....someone else would be the "Danny" or "Robert" or whatever.....

Yep I said it....

Whut?

The way I figure, there would still be "Danny Shelton" types - they are good for us really, they teach us the difference (by being them selves) between what is good and what is evil, what pain is, when to say NO, when to stand up and say ENOUGH LEADERSHIP FROM YOU THANK YOU, etc. They by their being, can make us stronger if they don't kill us first. It's definanitely the harder road, but, worth it in the end, especially since we can't get away from them on this planet and we might as well learn all we can and see if we can't learn to put them at the bottom of the food chain.

Also, if there was no DS, there would be no Melody, or grandchildren, maybe no great friend Derrel among us, or this great and mighty section on BSDA that is a source of education to the SDA and beyond world.

OK, this was probably not what you had in mind, but it's how my mind reacted. And, I'll probably be back.... scratchchin.gif you got it going now...

I took the question as being intended for the future, beginning now, not as being intended to ask the time travel question as to what the world would have been like had there never been a Danny Shelton.

We are where we are. And there is what there is and who there is -- including those who are hurting and living in fear because of what has been done and are haunted by thoughts (and threats) of what may yet be done. And this will continue so long as Danny Shelton is around with enough power and backing so that he can continue to do as he has done.

There is a long list of ways in which the world would be different if Danny were now removed from the scene. (Not all of them that could be told even then.) It will take much more than a "moment" to list only a few samples. But what we must not forget is that the evil that Danny has unleashed on the world is not sourced from Danny alone. He has trained others, and they have learned his lessons well, so removing Danny alone would not make all the changes that need to be made.

Will there "always be Danny Shelton types"? Perhaps there will. And perhaps we can learn from them what evil looks like close up and specific. But that does not mean that "they are good for us really". To say that is to make evil look like a necessity. And if it were, then it could hardly be called evil. But whatever the use of evil in God's plan for the universe, the Adventist church does not need to give it their "stamp of approval" nor advertise it as "the face of Adventism".

It is this that I resent more highly than anything else in this whole set of affairs. Danny would not be able to deceive any where near so many people, nor seduce so many, nor abuse so many, nor harass so many, nor control so many if it were not for that (IMO damnable) "SDA Seal of Approval" with which it enters homes and Adventist churches all around the world, stealing from the offering box of the very churches that promote it.

More later........

stay tuned......... snack.gif

you pot-stirring chain-yanker you! Now, you didn't want to be specific, so I went general. Now you are trying to get me to say I was specific ("entire world"). I don't think I said the entire world. You stated "the world" which means ANYONE in the WHOLE world that might KNOW the man in SOME way. (I like to use capitals to emphasize) and even those that may eventually (in the world) have a connection to him. Now, this is not to say that he doesn't ever do something good for someone....and many someones THINK he has, even when his motives were not pure, but, if we are talking gereralities, (you also just got me to place a judgement on his life worth, which I now feel I better ask forgiveness for! biggrin.gif ) it's good commen sense to think that a person of his "type" can hurt less people if he did not exist. Why do I feel like we are talking about Sadaam Hussein, or any of the other tyrant/control freaks in "the world"??? giggle.gif

you may be discussing Sadam like characters... somehow though I find it difficult to believe that the millions of people starving to death in the Sudan know about Mr. Shelton and could care less, unless of course he has sent them humanitarian aid... dunno.gif

I think that perhaps you have broadened your question a little too much. Everyone has "circles of influence". Those who are most affected.... for good or bad.... are those whose lives are touched most closely by Danny Shelton's actions. But, like the ever widening ripples of water, lives further from the center are also affected. And the cumulative effect goes on touching more and more lives as it moves outward.

Danny's stated goal is to have an effect on every person in the world, at least through the medium of television. That of course, is impossible, for millions of people will never see a television in their whole lifetime.

But there is another way of measuring the effects of a man's life on others than merely asking how his life now affects others and how would their lives be different if he were suddenly doing nothing.... and that is to ask how would "the world" be different if he were doing, and had been doing, something different than what he has and is.

In this vein, think for a moment what it might have meant to at least part of those people starving in Sudan if the money that Danny diverted to his own pockets and "toys" had been given instead to ADRA. That is not to suggest that all of the people in the world would suddenly have been well fed and housed had Danny inspired people to give to organizations which were actually living as well as spreading the gospel. Even Bill Gates with his billions only makes a dent in world hunger. Nor does it suggest that it is helpful to philosophize about "what might have been".

The point is not what effect Danny might have on those with whom he never came in contact. The point is what difference would it make to those with whom Danny DOES "make a difference". What kind of difference does Danny make in their lives? Would THEIR worlds be better if he (and all of his assistants) were suddenly to disappear?

The answer is, of course, is yes. A very resounding, YES. yes.gif

How would their worlds be different? How would they be "better"? The answers will vary to the extent that their experiences vary.

the question started off broadly, some of the responses attempted to narrow it... I asked how would the "world" be different... and I was speaking in global terms.... not our little necks of the woods per se....

It would be neither better or worse the only effect his absence will have is on those who know him. He is one of 6 billion people I assume most of the 6 billion don't have a clue as to who he is.

While this is definitely true, it is also true that there are manyof those who "don't have a clue as to who he is who are affected by his presence (and would be affected by his absence).

I haven't seen him either, but I don't know why a tall man would build a house for a 6'4' man and make the ceiling on the second floor only 6' tall........so I'm concluding that Danny is well under 6' tall.

OTOH.......... It has been said that "a man is as tall as the shadow he casts". Danny casts a very long, very dark, shadow.
