3abn Is Coming Out With An Urban Channel, According to Wintley Phipps Options

Don't hide. As kevin said, it truly it racist, however, it is the way things are. i.e., you have contemporary gospel (white folks with a few blacks sprinkled in), Southern gospel(Gaithers,e tc. again a few black folks sprinkled in, Jesse Dixon), then you have Urban gospel(black folks with a few whites sprinkled in Mrtha Munizzi, Vicki Yohe). IOW, the term term is commonly used to described anything black, music to neighbrhoods. Just one of those politically incoorect things we do.

Hey Y'all,

Wintley Phipps came WAY OUT here to Oregon and at a sermon and concert he mentioned that 3ABN is coming out with an Urban channel. Pastor Phipps has a heart for urban youth and mentioned 3ABN's push to minister to urban youth.

Anyone heard about it? I guess I could go to 3ABN's site and find out for myself.

In response to the 3ABN URBAN CHANNEL, I saw a program where W. Phipps and D. Shelton made the announcement that they were going into a partnership to start up an URBAN 3ABN.

On August 23, 2006 I sent and E-mail to 3ABN asking when this URBAN CHANNEL would air. The respone I received was WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY URBAN CHANNEL! They had no ideal what I was talking about! After sending 3 e-mails explaining what the URBAN CHANNEL was I gave up. I heard that this channel is suppose to start Sept 06, but have not heard or seen anything from 3ABN about it.

Wintley Phipps is doing television work for Radio Bible Class, Grand Rapids, MI. He did a very nice job. I saw one of them one Sunday morning on the local TV station.

No, RBC is not Adventist, but Wintley will need to network [pun] as he ventures further into television, and Radio Bible Class is a good choice for that. RBC can help Wintley in many ways and Wintley is unlikely to pick up bad advice there.

Financially, Radio Bible Class sets a very good example for Wintley. Here's a little excerpt from some research by Stephen Winzenburg, Grand View College, Des Moines, Iowa.

Does the Academy still exist? If so, does he work 40 hours a week as a pastor too, and does he get a full salary from the conference too?

I hope he doesn't work himself into the grave. 40 + 40 + this type of venture too. I couldn't handle all that.

He preached a sermon on this very issue in church a few months ago. It was very powerful. That man can preach! He also announced he would be doing this series. It aired on a local religious channel a few months ago and he said he knew it would be aired at later dates in other local markets.

I know he works hard and travels a lot...and still is in church more often than not. Also, most church officers have his cell phone number and he knows what is going on in church. Some folks may take issue with him working these two positions, but it does not matter to me. I guess because I'm a hustler at heart and am business minded, I am biased toward him on this issue.

If he runs the Academy and the church efficiently I ain't mad at him. He donates his salary from the church? That's alright in my book. Sounds like he is genuine in his ministry.

From what I understand, he doesnt allow soundtracks of his songs to be made... there are several gospel singers who choose to not do so...

Was, or is, this claim, that an urban channel was to be started, just an attempt to gain greater financial support from this particular group of people who may not be lending their full support to this "ministry"? Is this "ministry" waiting for money to come in from the "urban" population before they start this project?

Why is an "urban" channel even needed? Is this "ministry" unable to use the current programs as a vehicle to minister to the "urban" population? Or is it that they don't have anyone, on the current programming, who would appeal to the "urban" folks? If so, why is that?
