What are some programatic (not personality or people) changes that would make 3ABN more 21st century and meet more needs of the current Adventist viewership and those that it needs to target in the United States?
I'll start: One of my youth at church suggested that the Drill Team Competitons need to aired....in her opinion, that would stimulate more interest among the youth....I would also add the United Youth Congress. We both agree that "Teen Pathways" (I think that is the right name) is and needs to be and placed out of it's misery (good intentions though). We also agree that Tiny Tots is one of the best and current shows that they have. What do you think would make it more effective in it's target population in the U.S. (since it does very well, I understand, in providing the needs outside of the U.S.)? -------------------- "No weapon formed against YOU (Sarah--and every Believer/Servant of God) shall prosper and every tongue that rises against you in judgement you will condemn...."--Isaiah 54:17

Getting serious again and returning to the original question--
QUOTE(simplysaved @ Jul 7 2006, 02:01 PM) What are some programatic (not personality or people) changes that would make 3ABN more 21st century and meet more needs of the current Adventist viewership and those that it needs to target in the United States? I'll start: One of my youth at church suggested that the Drill Team Competitons need to aired....in her opinion, that would stimulate more interest among the youth....I would also add the United Youth Congress. We also agree that Tiny Tots is one of the best and current shows that they have. What do you think would make it more effective in it's target population in the U.S. (since it does very well, I understand, in providing the needs outside of the U.S.)? I'm sure that you meant for this to be a positive thread and you must be quite frustrated over the way things have gone. But don't you see the point? We don't want our young people more attracted to 3ABN given the moral, fiscal, ethical, doctrinal, and personal relationship turpitude of its present owners and leading personalities. What we want is to see the corruption cleaned away, the guilty and their willing accomplices not only replaced but appropriately "brought to justice", the funds which have been diverted to personal gain recovered for use as their donors intended, and a whole new governing structure put in its place. What needs doing is very comparable to that expressed by the "old saw" back in the days when automobiles had identifying ornamental but actual radiator caps on the outside of the hood. The standard answer to "Can it be fixed?" was, "Sure, but only if we jack up the radiator cap and drive a new car under it." Likewise, 3ABN as an identifying "radiator cap" is great. Everything else needs to be replaced! IOW when you say: QUOTE(simplysaved @ Jul 7 2006, 02:59 PM) I would like to see more recent/current broadcasts of Breath of Life!!!! What I think is NO!!! What I'd like to see is Breath of Life tell 3ABN that due to the moral turpitude of its leadership they are withdrawing their contract with them and are forbidding 3ABN to ever show them again--ever--including repeats of old programs. I'd like to see every truly SDA program who is now using 3ABN do the same. I'd like to see every SDA recording artist do the same--especially those black artists like Wintley Phipps, whom 3ABN is using to bolster their credibility. None of these NEED 3ABN to get to their audience. They can go on SAFE TV, HOPETV, and Loma Linda Broadcasting Net, all of which are more truly SDA channels than what 3ABN is. And with 3ABN now off of Sky Angel, it is quite possible that these other channels have wider coverage than does 3ABN, at least in the US. And if one buys the new 36" dish to access 3ABN from that, it is still not necessary to use 3ABN, since the same dish will bring HOPETV and LLBN. And besides these, there are other Adventist TV networks which have more limited coverage, but who are nonetheless valuable in their own areas, and who, as they grow, will have an increasingly healthy impact upon not only their local areas, but Adventist TV programming in general as they share their locally produced programming. What we want is to attract our members, old and young alike, to these other TV channels. This will not only expose them to a better selection of programming but it will protect them from the emotional appeals for both sympathy and funds currently on 3ABN, and it will give support to HOPETV and LLBN, which, as fairly new organizations very much need. I'd like to see every SDA pastor, teacher, SS leader, and every other person of large or small influence immediatly cease recommending 3ABN to anyone for any reason. I'd like to see every SDA pastor and member say "NO" when contacted about having a 3ABN rally at their church. As 4reneyonly put it: "Pull the plug". To live, 3ABN has to have three "lifelines"--programming, funds, and viewers. I echo her call and expand it. Pull the plugs--all of them. Then you can direct your suggestions as to what should be aired so as to attract the broad spectrum of Adventists--including the youth--to these other channels, where there is some hope of your suggestions being looked upon favorably and where your youth will have much better role models than those who run 3ABN. |

Actually, this is to be a pro-active thread....focusing specifically on what from a programatic vantage point would make 3ABN more able to meet the needs of those who watch in the U.S. ...nothing more. God is able to handle whatever may or not be of Him...
One of the things that I see as a BIG turnoff is when I turn on any SDA program on whatever channel and it is clear that all you see is "recycled shows". IMO it is a disgrace when we only have dated programs to air representing our church. That discussion is not the purpose of this thread.....the focus is what would make the station programming more in tune with the needs of SDA Christians and Christians in the U.S.
We should be able (in general) to look at situation objectively and focus on what would make it better....
