QUOTE(Eirene)
This weekend the complete recipe will be the 10 commandment weekend being held in Chicago. Starts 9am central time goes until about 10 pm saturday night. Then repeats until sunday 9am where it continues until 1pm. Lots of music from some 3abn singers and others from the area of Chicago. Wintley P, John L, Doug B, Jim Gilley, and David A. just to name a few of the speakers. The Chicago churches have supported this endeavor fervently. A huge crowd is expected. Don't miss a blessing. Be sure and tune in.

I wonder if any of these speakers will be presenting the 10 Commandments as described in Exodus 34.

For those not familiar what is apparently an older version of the commandments...here's a little quiz. What are the 10 Commandmants as described in Exodus 34?
Ex 34:1And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

    (snip)

14For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

    15Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

16And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.

17Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

18The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.

19All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.

20But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.

21Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.

22And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.

23Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel.

24For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year.

25Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.

26The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

27And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

28And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
No $1,000 prize or anything. If I remember correctly, this is one of two places in the OT where the 10 Commandments are actually called "the ten commandments."

Laurence, thank you for putting this here. It is very powerful, isn't it?

I wish them all the best, really.

Thursday night Mollie referred to their panel as the "Motley Crew." And while advertising and punctuating the upcoming 10 Commandments weekend, DS mention how big it was going to be. He said the Chicago Tribune and USA Today were going to there reporting on the event. Mollie turned to DS and said something like people weren't going to be coming just because of his good looks. Danny blushed, and look better in his sweats rather than in that ugly longhorn blazer he wore a couple weeks ago.

Everyone seemed excited, but then the subject turned to the "attacks of Satan." DS mentioned that it had been good for them all. It had brought them to their knees in prayer. I'm curious about this expression, "attacks of Satan." I've heard it over and over on 3abn. Are they referring to you'all?

It's crazy times we live in. I never thought I'd read the bible and turn around and face the day when even our people preaching the gospel would fit the stories I'd read...like about the rich young ruler. I wonder how easy it would be, even for a religious corporation, to sell everything they have, give to the poor, and follow in the footsteps of our savior. What a crazy world we live in.

I have felt for some time that this was a living bible story in front of our eyes. This was about more then just a divorce. My feeling has been that there is a great deal here for us to see - many aspects, many things to see with our eyes in this time, and it will be a breaking point (IMO) for many sda's. It may divide people, but, anything that is about principle, justice, truth and standing for what's right often does divide. My words over and over have been "wake up - open they eyes and see".

We're ignoring the weekend altogether in our churches. One sermon is about studying the Bible for yourself (yay for broad readings in clear passages!), the other is about believing Jesus' way is best before we can really become disciples.

The Ten Commandments are baseline righteousness anyway. One can keep them without being converted at all. But maybe that's a theology post ...

The whole thing is a publicity stunt by political conservatives anyway--not even close to as serious as the National Day of Prayer. 3ABN is trying to hijack it for its own publicity--why give them any ammo?

Thursday night, DS said the weekend would cost us about $300,000. Does anyone know how much it cost Christ to draw a crwod of 5,000 people, or give the sermon on the mount, or explain God's commandments?.

Does that cost include Danny's royalties for the book sales?

sounds like a plan...

And if one heeds Paul in Romans and Galatians, it's not even that; it exists to let us know where the lines are drawn... and when we have stepped outside of them. I don't know if we can accurately call them "righteousness", baseline or otherwise, because the avoidance of sin does not automatically make one righteous...and, as the rich young ruler found, one can keep them from small and still be spiritually lacking...

Agreed.

Not sure, and I don't know if that included everyone's salary through the weekend. But Whitney Phipps was on stage this morning, and just before he sung, he talked about the one million dollar check he'd received from Oprah. There has been a lot of talk about money so far, maybe they'll get into the essence of God's meaasge a little later today. But' I have to go up to the mountains now...so I won't see it.

We are not going live at the 11 am hour like we did last year. The promotion has not been big at our church this year. Don't ask me why...

Our media ministries Department is recording it.

Dear BSDA brothers and sisters,

Sitting here in my St. Louis hotel room as my husband naps on the comfy bed, I just finished watching one of the most powerful sermons I have ever heard! Dwight Nelson gave the opening message for the 10 commandment weekend and I hope that Danny and the leadership of 3abn were actually listening for he spoke of Jesus' teaching about the hierarchy of truth.

Matthew 22:36-40
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

His thrust was that the love Jesus spoke of in these two commandments transcends the 10 commandments. Dwight rebuked the SDA congregations in Chicago for not demonstrating this love by having the most segregated churches of any city and charged them to put aside that segregated worship and get together.

I wasn't going to watch any of the TCW but what a blessing I would have missed had I not seen this service! The Holy Spirit is going to minister to those with ears to hearin spite of the control that Satan appears to have over some who are leading this weekend.

I won't be able to watch any other programs due to visiting with my St. Louis family, but I would strongly urge all of you to try to catch the rebroadcast of Dwight Nelson's powerful sermon this evening.

PB

Who is the book being sold to? I ask because the church we attended today, in IL, had 10,000 books to distribution. I asked what it cost the church to get the books and was told they were "given" to them for distribution. dunno.gif
