In my mailbox today was the Hope Channel's latest newsletter. It is new & improved--huge, 11" x 17" and 4-color. But what really caught my eye was the page-3 article titled: A Ministry You Can Trust (the last 3 words in boldface type). Herewith, some snippets from the article:
"Hope Channel strives to reach the highest standards of Christian ministry and professional integrity. As the official television network of the Adventist Church, we operate according to church policy and are accountable to the church constituency." "We use the most economical means of travel and economize in every conceivable manner so your gifts are maximized to reach the world with God's last-day message. Our financial records are managed and audited by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. "Hope Channel leadership is appointed by the world church. Our operating board is comprised of church leaders and lay leaders from around the world." "All Hope Channel employees are members of the Adventist Church and are dedicated to fulfilling its mission." "Hope Channel is your church's television ministry to share the three-angels' message with a lost world. Your partnership is a sacred trust that we respect." Guess that says it all, huh? Gotta get out my checkbook... Cheers, Maggie |

Well, that about covers it!

Does it make a difference if the overall programming is not relevant or meeting the needs of the majority Adventist constituency? In other words, can we kindly update the program list? Can it please be reflective of more than just the conservative Adventist body (since it represents the Adventist church and "Hope Channel strives to reach the highest standards of Christian ministry and professional integrity. As the official television network of the Adventist Church, we operate according to church policy and are accountable to the church constituency."

....and one more thing, is it possible for me to see some balanced diverse, cultural examples from the pulpit (in both temperments of the preachers/speakers and worship experience) --or even ONE CHURCH SERVICE that I can honestly say is reflective of my own Seventh-day Adventist Church? Is that to much for a lady to ask?
Can somebody preach/teach about how to live TODAY while waiting for the Second Coming of Christ in addition to the Health Message??? Can it be done? -------------------- "No weapon formed against YOU (Sarah--and every Believer/Servant of God) shall prosper and every tongue that rises against you in judgement you will condemn...."--Isaiah 54:17

I discovered (quite by accident) how to wean older richer folks off one well known non-denominational religious channel, and onto the Hope Channel. It all started with my folks. I got up on the roof to adjust their antenna. Hope Channel came in clear as a bell and the other was fuzzy--sometimes mute, or no signal. After a week or two, my falks really got excited about Hope. They don't miss the other very much now, although sometimes I find my mother asleep with it on, when I come to visit.
I've had the same experience adjusting other friends antennas. Someone told me, "God works in mysterious ways" and now I believe it. -------------------- Disclaimer Notice: You are hereby cautioned that the information contained within these posts are for the sole purpose of provoking thought, adding fair comment on matters of public interest, and not providing factual information. I don't think any channel can be all things to all people, they have to try and hit the happy medeim for the majority of their viewers. That said, have you written them asking them about their programs? If they are not meeting the needs of their watchers maybe they will change, but only if they get input. I watch neither 3abn or Hope. I just watch BSDA, but not for the rest of the weekend. Off to a hammered dulcimer festival. Richard |

Why didn't you ask it of 3ABN when you deemed them the television face of Adventism and when their programming was very narrowly focused at the same audience you are knocking the Hope Channel for seeming to target... I never deemed them the face of Adventism...but good try.
...and have posted and stated to people directly within the 3ABN the same thing I say here about Hope TV--no discrimination. When an organization states that "Hope Channel strives to reach the highest standards of Christian ministry and professional integrity. As the official television network of the Adventist Church, we operate according to church policy and are accountable to the church constituency." "Hope Channel leadership is appointed by the world church. Our operating board is comprised of church leaders and lay leaders from around the world." The programming should reflect just that. One can expect less from an independent minstry (although they should not) but have to "raise the bar" when it comes to official entities of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (or any church for that matter)--best intentions and all. Why didn't you ask it of 3ABN when you deemed them the television face of Adventism and when their programming was very narrowly focused at the same audience you are knocking the Hope Channel for seeming to target... I wish Hope TV the best for success, but believe they are not thinking through what they have apparently written as their mission.
When replacing one thing for another, it has to be of equal or greater impact and relevance or the person will stop using it. I don't think any channel can be all things to all people, they have to try and hit the happy medeim for the majority of their viewers. Then the said referenced statement is not accurate or true. the "happy medium has not been met at this time. That said, have you written them asking them about their programs? If they are not meeting the needs of their watchers maybe they will change, but only if they get input. I receive requests for donations regularly. They will soon receive one. I watch neither 3abn or Hope. I just watch BSDA, but not for the rest of the weekend. Off to a hammered dulcimer festival. I agree with you 100%, SimplySaved. It can happen if Hope channel is succeeding financially. The roadblock is that these channels are funded by donations, and people who are able to donate the most substantially tend to be older conservative folks. Ideally there'd be several channels based on demographics and target audience. I'd love to see some top-notch, edgy, postmodern Adventist programming. But it'll take some mission-minded folks who are willing to pay for it. And the talent to produce it. -------------------- "The entire world is falling apart because no one will admit they are wrong." -- Don Miller, Blue Like Jazz. |

They need to hire Linda Shelton to help them get some good programs on IMHO.
