The Tree in the midst of the Garden...Part 4

Synopsis: In part 3 of “The Tree in the midst of the Garden” Mollie and Hal Steenson were introduced as “the collaborators in suggesting and sustaining the “first miracle” of 3ABN. It was Hal who advised Danny that by telling the story of Hal’s purported “gift” of television equipment to Danny from a Pentecostal ministry, with Hal willing to sign a falsified document substantiating the “fact”, this miracle would “prime the financial pump” and the donations would stream in to Danny’s pockets. Then some years later, Mollie returns to 3ABN, snatched from the crumbling ruins of the ministry that she and Hal built. It was Danny Shelton who reached out his hand to her and after her installation as his personal secretary, she immediately starts affirming to Danny and proclaiming to everyone else in the 3ABN compound that God speaks to Danny and speaks to them through Danny. Mollie was now back in her element.” It is at this point that we pick up our story.

To understand the chain of events that lead to Danny’s delusions concerning his position as “godhead” at 3ABN, it is necessary to investigate the background of those who, like that age old serpent, have whispered into Danny’s ear, “You will truly be like God”. Neither one of these women came into leadership positions at 3ABN as Seventh-day Adventists. Why in a ministry that has recently begun to refer to itself as a supporting ministry of the SDA church, would principle members of the management team be members from other denominations?

The first woman, Mollie Steenson, is now baptized into the fellowship of the 3ABN church, although her privately shared reasons were neither doctrinal nor Biblical, but because “3ABN is the cutting edge ministry”. With the securing of her church membership and later with the ousting of Linda Shelton as 3ABN Vice President, Mollie has risen in the ranks of 3ABN to become the General manager, a member of the 3ABN Board and as she has recently leaked to those in the know, the newest member of the Board of the Illinois Conference. Mollie’s religious background: died in the wool, speaking in tongues, Pentecostal. Has this leopard change her spots? Or does she just know how to play the principles in this saga to her own advantage?

The second woman, ET Everett, builds upon the foundation laid by Mollie Steenson. ET has been involved in 3ABN over a number of years and in various capacities. She and her husband Dave were also personal friends of Danny and Linda, privately vacationing with them a number of times. ET’s current position is manager of the 3ABN music production studio. Among the perks that she enjoys is a custom built, rent free apartment in the music studio complex. ET and Dave have never strayed from their charismatic background, content to remain encased within their belief system and faithfully attending church services on Sunday mornings; appearing to have no interest in Adventism, although both have worked for Danny and known him personally for many years.

At this point an inescapable dichotomy appears. First, why would a woman hold a managerial position in a ministry that is considered a cult by the denomination of whom she is an active member? That would be the equivalent of Pastor Walter Pierson, Jr. becoming a permanent front man for the Pope’s USA tours. And why would she represent the head of this ministry as having the spiritual gifts of a prophet of God? Playing a spiritually dangerous “tag team” match with Mollie, ET is the woman who has lead Danny down the garden path giving him the following “word of knowledge”: whatever thoughts and impressions Danny receives regarding anything is the voice of God. Soon Danny was looking at people and telling them that the Lord was revealing this or that about them. He was being shown things in dreams or visions. If you disagreed with him, you were disagreeing with God himself because he had become the voice of God.

All of this prompts an unavoidable question: What is it in ET’s religious belief system that allows her to see Danny Shelton as a latter day prophet, yet have no interest in the religion he claims to represent?

Like Adam was lead to that certain tree in the middle of the garden by Eve. Two women have been responsible for leading Danny Shelton to the perception that his voice is as the voice of God and all his thoughts and impressions concerning anything come from God. Like Eve they may have brought him to the tree, but like Adam before him, Danny choose to eat of it. Could Danny have walked away from the whisperings that have continued to lead him into greater delusion, bringing him to the point where he no longer perceived himself as constrained by the Ten Commandments of God? But as in the days before the Judges, when each man was a law unto himself, has Danny forged his own realm within which he is answerable neither to the laws of God or Man?

Seated upon his mount, Danny lifts himself up in the saddle. Raising up his hand he shadows he eyes from the glare of the afternoon sun. A smile spreads across his face as he observes a small portion of his realm. The tall grass in the open pasture land has not yet turned the golden hues of late summer and with great satisfaction he knows that all this and so much more belong to him alone. Looking at what he has made, he pronounces it good...so what, if the majority of the dollars that have paid for his expensive pleasures are provided by people who live on nothing more than nickel and dimes, there is no ethical dichotomy here. Hasn’t he given them what they wanted? And besides, a man in his God ordained position should be entitled to the best the king’s table has to offer. As his horse bends down his head to nibble on the still green shoots of grass, Danny muses over the last “Behind the Scenes” program: next time he must remember to blush a little, while he works it into the conversation of how people are perceiving him to be a prophet like Ellen White. Followed by a smile and a humble look this is guaranteed to achieve the correct response from his loyal viewers. One day they all will truly acknowledge who he is and place him in the position where he belongs... Realizing where his thoughts are taking him, his smile broadens to that of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Knowing there is no need to question the source from which these impressions spring, he rest in the assurance that all his thoughts and impressions come from God...

I will conclude the final part of “The Tree in the Midst of the Garden" with a quote form a former 3ABN employee:

“I will never forget the man in Denver, CO at a church I was speaking in. After the service, he told me that I was so fortunate to be working with God’s final prophet for the end times. He said that E.G. White was the prophet for her day, but Danny was a much greater prophet.”

“Danny seems to have surrounded himself with people who enforce that in him, and it has come to the point where Even a board member who works at 3ABN said, when someone disagreed with Danny, “To us, Danny is God.”

I believe her name is Ethel Everett. I am not aware that the "T" in "ET" has anything to do with her true middle name.

We must investagate these serpents and I look at the names. Am I the only one here who takes sister seriously? He is thinking he is a god and somebody has set him up for that.

We are dealing in spiritual realms and it might look like foolishness to him that believeth not, but as sister says, we must investagate.

I thought Jesus said to be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.... what is there to investigate? and once the investigation is complete what will happen? what is the purpose for the investigation? Danny Shelton is not the only person in this world or in the adventist church who may think that he is a god....

So when the investigation of him is done, who will be investigated next? Where does it end?
